The archdemon Griselbrand tricked Avacyn into her own prison, the Helvault, knowing that freeing her would mean freeing himself and all the other evils within it. Griselbrand doesn’t yet realize his liberator is the Planeswalker Liliana Vess, once his servant, now bent on his destruction.
